GYSO Brass Band Solo Competition 2007

Congrats to those of you who have opted to participate in our first Solo Competition!

We will hold auditions on Jan. 7.

Auditions will be held before your peers and we will all vote on our favorite performances. Should be a very fun day! I am hopeful that EVERYBODY will participate:-)

We will select 2 winners.....both to perform on the concert Feb.12 at the Dozier Centre.

The winner with the most votes will perform their solo (or duet) with the Georgia Brass Band!
The 2nd Place vote-getter will perform with the GYSO Brass Band!

Below I have some pdf files of potential solos. If you wish to audition on another piece, just be sure that it has a Brass Band arrangement and be sure that we can order it for the February performance (i.e. is it out of print, rental only, etc.)

Note that some of the pieces below are marked for specific instruments. Some of these pieces work quite well for other instruments, too.

Many times a piece intended for Flugel, for example, works very well on Baritone or Trombone. I have listed all the pieces in the library that might work well for your instrument.

Not all of the pieces are here in their entirety. We will hear only a portion for the audition.
Some of these are duets. Maybe you want to get together with a friend and audition these!

Have fun in your preparation! Here are a few suggestions:

-start very slowly in your practice
-find a recording if at all possible
-record yourself and listen back
-play for your private teacher
-sing through the part
-conduct through the part
